There is a wide range of summer programmes available in the UK, for children from age 7 or above. Courses will include English lessons, excursions, sports and general activities. There are also special study options, such as English plus Sports, Drama, and preparation courses for British boarding school. Most of the summer courses offer accommodation on the school campus. Rooms are single, twin or multi-bedded. Meals include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sports and activities are always carried out under supervision to ensure the safety of the children.

Summer school

Bede's School

Bede’s School, Dicker

aged 12 to 17 (boys & girls)

l One of the Centres of Excellence 2013-2014 based on the results of the British Council Inspection 2013.

l Bede’s Dicker centre is situated in a small village in the midst of the South Downs, an area of Outstanding National Beauty and close to the coastal resort of Eastbourne.

l Students: Age range 12 to17 yrs. Maximum 260 students per week from different countries. Limits for each nationality to ensure a good mix.

l Accommodation: Most bedrooms have 1, 2 to 4 beds.

l Facilities: Tennis courts, sports hall, swimming pool, gym, squash courts, astro-turf, playing fields, drama theatre, dance studios, small golf course, IT suites, art studios.

Academic Preparation Course

² For students with an interest in Academic English or for those joining a UK Boarding School.

² Students: Divided in pre-GCSC, GCSC or A level considering the age. Maximum 100 students per week from different countries.

² The program: Intensive course. Lessons take place in the mornings and afternoons and there is a full programme of evening social events and weekends excursions, organised by Bede's Activities Leaders. Everything is included in the fee. The course is in August for 2 or 3 weeks.

² Lessons: 30 hours of lessons per week. 12½ hours of English Skills, 5 hours of Language Workshops (essay writing, interpreting graphs and pronunciation among others) and 12½ hours of School Subjects (Art and Design, Biology, Economics, Maths etc.). Maximum 14 students per class. Weekly progress checks to monitor performance.

² Levels: 4 levels are available from Intermediate (B1) to Proficiency (C2). Entry test on Monday with a speaking, grammar and writing component. Minimum level required is Intermediate B1.

Adventures in English

² The program: Full programme of lessons, sports, art, drama, clubs, cultural visits, social events, trips and excursions. Everything is included in the fee except the flight tickets.

² Sports Academy: Expert tuition in Tennis (6 hours per week), Contemporary Dance (6 hours per week), Golf (6 hours per week), Rugby (6 hours per week) and Horse Riding (3 hours per week). Individual and group instruction. Supplements are payable.

² Lessons: 22 ½ hours of English per week.

² Levels: 7 levels are available from Beginners (A1) to Proficiency (C2).

² Exam: The Cambridge PET and FCE exams are available (3 or 4 weeks preparation course). Exam takes place at the end of the course at the Centre.

² Care: Excellent staff: student ratios (typically 1:5). Individual attention provided.

Dance & English

² Hours: 38 hours of Dance and 20 hours of English language tuition.

² Dance Level Previous ballet experience is essential.

Etherton Education

  • Located in Sherborne – a small traditional English market town ideally situated two and a half hours west of London in the clean, quiet and safe countryside environment of Dorset.
  • The intensive English language courses include a range of academic subjects (including art, drama, computing, sciences, humanities and cultural studies) to give variety and exposure to academic language and to provide a “taster” of a typical British timetable (26-30 lessons of 45 minutes plus supervised English “homework” on 4 evenings per week).
  • Great deal of individual attention in classes that average 6 students and have a maximum of 8.
  • Accommodation in mostly single or double study bedrooms.

Adventures in English

  • Exam: The Cambridge FCE exam is available. Exam takes place at the end of the course at Bede's Dicker.


Lord Wandsworth College

  • The College is set in beautiful green countryside of Hampshire, in a safe and secure environment. The location is about 45 minutes from Heathrow Airport and one hour from London.
  • Most of the rooms are double rooms in the boys’ boarding house. Girls’ boarding house consists of a large converted barn, most rooms are doubles; there is a very big lounge and many separate study areas.
  • Excellent sport facilities including tennis courts near to the Boarding Houses, a heated swimming pool in the middle of the school, two sports halls and two astro pitches. Students will have plenty of opportunities to take part in sports.


Pre-A-Level/Pre-IB Course

  • Full 8-week programme is like an extra term of school and will give students a good start at their next school.
  • Suitable for students who will be starting A-Levels or International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in September.
  • Maximum class size is 16, but the normal average class size is about 12 to 13 students.
  • Students will spend about half their time learning English and drama, and the other half studying main subjects (at least 3 subjects, allows 4-5 up to students’ wish).
  • At least 10 hours a week in English lessons and 3 hours a week for each subject.
  • These subjects are taught by qualified subject specialist teachers; but in all of the subjects, teachers will also focus on the English language students need for studying the subject.
  • After lessons there are a range of Sunday clubs, evening lectures, social activities, formal dinner and dance, drama, and sport available.
  • Every week there is one full-day trip for students to learn more about the culture of Britain. This will include: Oxford, Cambridge, London, Winchester, Windsor.

  • One of Britains leading co-educational schools, was founded in 1584.
  • Easily accessed – it is 160km north of London and just over two hours by road. Birmingham is 1.5 hours by road and Cambridge, Peterborough and Leicester can be reached in one hour. Just 15 minutes away is Rutland Water, Europes largest man-made lake, where students can try canoeing and other watersports.
  • The school has both new and historic buildings. A state-of-the-art Sports Centre has recently opened. This comprises a large indoor sports hall, a 25m 6-lane swimming pool, a gymnasium, squash courts and two dance studios. The outdoor sports facilities are extensive and include 12 tennis courts, football and cricket pitches.
  • Classes are held in the schools historic quad. There is impressive IT suite, theatre, drama studio, lecture theatre for showing DVDs and modern Leonardo Art centre.
  • Uppingham offers both traditional and modern accommodation. Boys and girls are accommodated in separate houses where they eat their meals. 1-6 bedded rooms (some singles have ensuite facilities) with close supervision by our resident staff.

  • Classes in e.g. Maths, Science, English, Geography, History, Study Skills and IT focus on independent learning, project work and collaborative study.
  • Study visits/weekly projects to e.g. Rockingham Castle, a Space Centre, a local Falconry Centre.
  • Maximum class size: 14 international students.
  • Pre-course testing may be required.
  • Progress is closely monitored during the course. At the end, student will be given a full end-of-course report.
  • A minimum 4-week stay to gain maximum benefit is recommended.
  • Week 5: study programme may include additional focus on intensive English, subject to demand.
  • Resident English Student Hosts, many of whom attend British boarding schools themselves, will join classes.

Winchester College

  • Student led team events to encourage entrepreneurship and global awareness (e.g. raising money for an international aid project).
  • Some afternoon and evening activities are seen as learning opportunities where students can grow socially as well as academically (e.g. crime and law club, Oxbridge traditions club).
  • Spacious, ‘basic’ bedrooms with 1-8 beds and shared bathrooms. Meals are taken in individual boarding houses.
  • This course is run as a junior programme with close supervision by resident staff.
  • A range of sports offered on most afternoons.
  • 1 full-day and 1 half-day excursion per week e.g. London (museums, galleries, river cruise), Oxford, Bath, Stonehenge/ Avebury, Portsmouth.
  • This programme is designed for students who are confident and capable in English, to meets the needs of dynamic young adults who are looking to develop their language skills through a range of interactive subjects.
  • All students are given an entry and exit language level check based on the IELTS speaking exam band scores.


Pre-College Enrichment

  • Maximum class size: 16 (average 12-14) international students. An English student of your age will take part in most classes.
  • Students learn subject skills in class (e.g. how to prepare for a high level English exam, how to storyboard and make a film, how to write a business plan) and, depending on the Majors/Minors chosen, students develop three main skill sets:
    1. Interpersonal skills - negotiation, team building and leadership values.
    2. Communication skills - formal/informal use of English, presentation skills, essay writing structure skills and summarising and paraphrasing.
    3. Life skills - time management, initiative, assertiveness, critical thinking and motivation.
  • Majors (13.5 hours per week). Most classes make a presentation of their week’s work in front of all the students at the end of each week.
  • Minors (6 hours per week).
  • Monday mornings (3 hours a week). Academic Specials: Masterclasses with business and media industry professionals, interactive workshops on English etiquette (eg. how to make a good impression) and British culture study visits (e.g. Jane Austen's House, Almshouses, science centre).

Woldingham School

  • Woldingham is situated in a beautiful, secluded valley of 320 hectares in Surrey, near Oxted. Gatwick is under 30 minutes away and Heathrow 45 minutes. Direct trains from London Victoria to Woldingham station take 30 minutes.
